Welcome to Hyperspace! I am a PhD candidate in particle physics at Columbia University. My time these days is mostly spent trying to answer the universe’s most fundamental questions with the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland. During my time at Columbia, I have served as a teaching preceptor for lab courses, and have continued to tutor both single- and multivariable calculus as well as high school and undergrad physics.
A native of Brazil, I enjoy running, biking, playing music, and all sorts of hiking. As a tutor, I strive to nourish my students’ curiosity in an engaging, light-hearted way.
Even as a person, Gabe was nonchalant and easy to talk to, and at times he felt more like a friend than a tutor. I felt incredibly comfortable speaking to him about things outside of the material that we covered during the sessions. Coming from a weak physics background, jumping into accelerated physics was a huge pain. Honestly, there was no way I would have survived these two semesters without the help of Gabriel Matos. As a tutor, his explanations of concepts were easy to understand, and I never felt like he went into long tangents or used unnecessary jargon -- straight to the point, and he made abstraction much simpler to grasp.
